CHELTENHAM RACES
Cheltenham racecourse is one of the most important National Hunt courses in the country. It plays host to the world famous Cheltenham festival held every March, with the 2nd largest prize money in the national hunt season.
The main racecourse has 2 courses next to each other, the new course and the old Course. The New Course has a difficult downhill fence and a longer run-in for steeplechases than the Old Course.
Hurdle races over 2 miles on the New Course are unusual because the majority of the hurdles are jumped early on in the race, with only two hurdles being jumped in the last 7 furlongs. Cheltenham racecourse houses The Centaur, and is one of the major auditoria in the South West of the country. The Centaur seats more than two thousand people for major conferences, and approximately four thousand standing room places for concerts. The Centaur also houses the famous Steeplechasing Hall of Fame. Cheltenham racecourse is used as the venue for the Wychwood Music Festival, and also the graduation ceremony and Ball for The University of Gloucestershire. Since the drainage work was carried out, it is unusual these days to have the ground conditions as soft. The cross country course is not like any other, and horses who return after running well, normally produce a good run again. Back in two thousand and five, the Cheltenham festival was increased to a four day meeting, with 6 races run each day.The major races at the festival are the Champion Hurdle, the World hurdle and of course the Gold Cup, but every race feels special at this event. The second most important meeting is the Paddy Power meeting over three days, with the feature race being The Paddy Power Gold cup. The racecourse at Cheltenham is one of the best courses in the country for corporate hospitality facilities. The Panoramaric Restaurant is exactly what is says, with great views of the racing and top quality food. If you are looking for a private box with a champagne reception for your special guests, this can be catered for at your request. Hospitality at Cheltenham races is about service, quality and of course choice. |
